“Confluence” refers to the meeting of two distinct paths that converge toward a single direction; here, it serves as the underlying theme of this unique exhibition. Two works are on display: the video “Mobilize” by Caroline Monnet and two large suspended tapestries made of germinated peas and other plants titled “Passages” by Emily Rose Michaud. Enveloped by the scent of dried herbs emanating from the tapestries and by Tanya Tagaq’s throat singing from the video, visitors move from one work to the other along the imaginary line of convergence.

Although the two artists come from different geographical backgrounds, they share a deep connection to the Kichi sìbì, the Ottawa River in Anishnaabemowin. Caroline Monnet, a Franco-Anishinaabe artist, explores themes such as identity, memory, and the transformation of Indigenous ways of life through her work. For her part, Emily Rose Michaud, a native of the Ottawa region, creates work that reflects her deep attachment to the region’s natural environment and her sensitivity to the traditional culture of those who have inhabited it for millennia.

Thus, Monnet and Michaud are united in a fundamental appreciation of the land, the true cornerstone of their artistic identity. Their work invites deep reflection on our relationship with the environment, highlighting its fundamental role in defining our humanity.
