André L’Archevêque (1923–2015) was an accomplished artist who built an exceptional reputation in the fields of advertising illustration and Quebec publishing. After a thirty-year successful career, he left commercial art to return to the fine arts. He made several trips to Europe to study the great masters and trained in printmaking at the Lacourière-Frélaut studio in Paris. Represented by the Bernard Desroches Gallery in Montreal, he enjoyed great success, and his highly sought-after works have found their way into numerous private collections.

The exhibition presents a selection of paintings, prints, and illustrations that reflect the different stages of his career. It also explores the social and historical context in which he lived and which is reflected in his work. His favorite subjects—Canadian houses and pastoral scenes—reflect a renewed interest in the traditional Quebec way of life in the 1970s. The Oka countryside is particularly well represented, as it was his home for some twenty years.
